kbas pimp post - 9-1-1

(The requested pairing here was Buck and Eddie)

-- also added a note at the end for the 2k21 updates.

This is such a western fandom ship. You've seen some iteration of it. The likes of Destiel and Sterek. I mean in this case they are actually friends on the show, but hopefully you know what I mean.

So, the show! In case you don't know it, 9-1-1 is a show about first responders in LA. It follows the life of people in the 9-1-1 and the police and fire departments. Most of the time it's a very case(s) of the week episodes but sprinked with their personal lives. Lots of drama, of course, because there are a ton of emergencies and TV networks like to keep the stakes high.

Ah, and this is a Ryan Murphy show. So if that means something to you, it is probably enough said. If you don't, please know that I what I am going to tell you is very, uh, cherry picking the parts that I like from canon.

So! Buck and Eddie!

Evan Buckley, firefighter #1: very tall, very pretty, very competent. He knows that, too. I know how it sounds, I wouldn’t like him either, probably. Except he’s kind of very nice. Let’s organize a secret party for the whole station so they can be with their families in Christmas kind of nice. It’s often portrayed on the show like he’s less that bright but I mean, he is a firefighter and he likes to read all kind of facts things so he’s not dumb. He’s very much like a puppy. Not the first one to make the comparison either.
He was the kind of guy that slept around a lot with a lot of people (got fired for a hot second for it, too). And then he fell in love and it changed him and he now looks for something more meaningful. Something that stays.  For the purpose of this post, here is a brief outline of the important romantic relationships he has on the show:
#1 - Abby - The person he fell in love with. 9-1-1 operator, older than him and very different than his usual type. She leaves to travel across Europe while being with him and she doesn't come back -- or well, she does, and they met in a train crash and she's engaged to someone else. I don't hate her but that wasn't her best move.
#2 - Ali - While he's trying to move on from Abby gosting him, he meets this girl during an earthquake. When he's ready to move on he calls her and they date for a while and they ar epretty serious. But then he has an accident, and she leaves him because she doesn’t think she can handle him be a firefighter.
So like he's very hot and cute and all but still very single and always the one left behind. Kind of tragic, and that's only his love life.
More Buckly things! Later on, he has an experience with a guy, a retired firefighter, which is basically his ghost of the future Christmas. Guy that was basically like him when he was young, devoted himself to work and his coworkers, like for Buck, were his family. Time passed and they grew apart, and while everyone had their families, he ended up alone with his memories. When faced with that he realizes that he really doesn't want to end like that.
And to top the drama off, he has kind of abandonment issues. Not only because girlfriends but also because his sister, Maddie, kind of left him at several points in his life. Not that she was mean or anything, they really love each other and up to today, they have reunited and are really close, but that still left a mark on him.

Now enters Eddie Diaz, firefighter #2: Character introduced at the start of the second season of the show as being very very hot — almost as much as hot stuff up there. Just watch for yourself, please. Anyway, Eddie. He was an army medic and he has a son; a very cute, delightful and disabled son who he needs help taking care of.
He was married but after a very dramatic story that left Eddiea lot of trauma to deal with, she died in an accident. Riiiight after telling him she wanted a divorce. Yeah, it’s a little tragic. He deals with it how he can, which of course it is not very well, and falls into illegal fighting for a moment there. It doesn't help that right at that moment he could't talk to Buck. Desperate times, desperate measures. Anyway, how is he? Very down to earth. Dry humor. Honestly, he’s nice, even when Buck is being kind of an ass with him. Loves his son a lot. Takes a lot on his shoulders and he has trouble asking for help.

So, how do they fit together? Well, they are best friends, canon wise, so that's a good start. And it is basically what it can be reduced to. After half a day working together they were attached at the hip. But also, they really compliment each other really well. Eddie is terrible asking for help, but Buck is really good at noticing when and how people need help and acting on it. Buck also loves Eddie's son,Christopher, a lot. I'd die searching you during a tsunami kind of a lot. Eddie, who has trust issues, trusts him with his life every day but also trusts him with his son. More than anyone.

They care about each other and they fit and they are pretty much perfect but you want to know what sold this to me? What moment I saw that made me go  Oh?

During a rescue, due to a storm, Eddie ends up buried under a fuckton feet of mud. And what does Buck do when he notices what happened? Scream? Yes. Cry? Also yes. Call for him? Of course. But also try to claw his way through him. With his bare hands. You gotta see it. The last gif is what did it. Mind you, I was watching the episode completely unsuspecting and this hit me hard.

(Yes, it's never gonna happen in canon. It doesn't matter to me.)

Now please allow me to treat you to the following:
VIDEO

- A playlist of their scenes together.
GIFSETS

- The queerbaiting test (aka, the show knows they are shipped, so they are gonna help with that)
- CU-TEST-FA-MI-LY (pt.3) (plus, those injuries on the first gif were on a tsunami, saving Chris)

FIC

- the distance to the stars. In which Buck and Eddie are dating except Eddie doesn't know. Literally. Everything I didn't know I wanted in a fic. Also, showcasing pretty cute flirting and my favorite dynamics between them.

UPDATE FOR 2K21

Look, I could re-edit to add all the canon stuff learned since I last wrote this, like why Buck has abandonment issues or the fact that at some point he was a cowboy or cover the girlfriend issue. But no. Why would I. The only, most important canon thing I have to add to this is that Eddie has written in his will that if he ever died, Buck is going to be his son's legal guardian.

Yeah, I know, the kind of thing besties do (jk, I would absolutely do that with a platonic best friend but I'm also me, and I do not have the same relationship standards of a Fox show). So that's where we're at.

Also this person's fic is absolutely fluffy and ridiculous and short so it's perfect for you to get a cute glance of what I like.
